Lesson 3:
Ask Questions 3

Ask Questions 3

In this lesson you are going to learn how to ask questions using the expression 是不是 (shì bú shì).

The expression 是不是 (shì bú shì) literally means: be not be.

It can be used to raise questions when the speaker wants to confirm what she already believes.

是不是 can be placed at the beginning of the sentence, at the end of the sentence or between the subject and the predicate. For example:

You love her.

àitā.
她。
youloveher

You love her, don't you?

shìshìàitā?
她?
benotbeyouloveher

or

shìshìàitā?
她?
youbenotbeloveher

or

àitā,shìshì?
她,
youloveherbenotbe

Everything clear, 是不是?
